FRYEBURG, Maine — Fryeburg selectmen voted last week to update a 2005 study of the Ward's Brook aquifer — if $34,000 can be raised to pay for it.
Resident Dick Krasker, who had raised the money for the original study, was put in charge of that effort at the July 27 selectmen's meeting.
It was 12 years ago that Emery & Garrett Groundwater of Meredith produced a study of the aquifer that serves both the Poland Spring water company and town residents.
That report forms the basis through which Fryeburg Water Co. and Poland Spring's sustainable yield were developed.
Poland Spring Bottling, a division of Nestle Waters North America, already withdraws water from sites in Fryeburg and Denmark, Maine.
The company is reportedly seeking a site for its fourth Maine bottling plant in either the Fryeburg and Rumford areas or north of Bangor.
